Transition Timeline
The timeline below illustrates NC State’s transition from Moodle to Canvas and includes the key milestones that will guide our community of instructors through each phase. It provides a high-level view of when development, access and teaching will take place throughout this multi-year effort.
Due to the complexity of this transition process, items on the timeline are estimates and are subject to change
Below this timeline, you can find more details about each phase of our work.
- Fall 2025: Pre-Planning
- NC State negotiating scope of work
- DELTA Canvas project planning begins
- Spring 2026: Research and Development
- DELTA and faculty/staff working groups to explore Canvas features, configuration, and external tool compatibility
- Open call for a second group of Evaluators to open in April, with a May 11 start date
- No active courses in Canvas
- Fall 2026: Canvas Project Spaces Available
- Any interested faculty and staff can create “Project” spaces to begin exploring Canvas.
- DELTA to provide initial onboarding, training, and support resources
- Summer 2027: Full Access to Canvas Available
- Canvas is open to all faculty and staff for academic instruction.
- DELTA to provide full instructional training and support resources
- Summer 2028: Moodle No Longer Available
- All active courses must be in Canvas.
- Moodle is no longer available for use with active courses.
