Professional Organizations

There are a number of organizations DELTA and NC State hold memberships with. These include but are not limited to EDUCAUSE, Moodle Users Association, Online Learning Consortium (OLC), Quality Matters (QM), EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR), and EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI).

  • Moodle Users Association’s mission, according to its website, is to support the growth of Moodle by providing a strong and united voice to users, giving direction and resources for new developments. Involvement in this association gives the university a “strong voice in the future directions of Moodle.” DELTA’s Senior Associate Director, Applications Development, Jeff Webster is a member of the Moodle User Association’s Committee of Management which is composed of 10 individuals worldwide. NC State has a Silver Level organization membership and Webster serves as the official liaison.
  • OLC, formerly known as Sloan C, is a leading professional online learning organization devoted to advancing quality online learning by providing professional development for individuals and institutions engaged in online instruction. This membership allows the NC State community to take advantage of membership pricing for online workshops, participation in free webinars and receive conference discounts. Associate Vice Provost for Academic Technology Innovation, Dr. Donna Petherbridge,  serves as the official liaison with OLC.
  • Quality Matters (QM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to quality assurance in online education. As an international, inter-institutional program, QM’s assurance processes are designed to certify the design of online and blended courses. A membership with this organization provides [us] access to research and tools that support work in designing quality online educational experiences. Bethanne Tobey is the Quality Matters Coordinator for NC State.

  • ECAR provides a number of benefits to the entire university. Some of these benefits include access to major studies on the higher education IT workforce, access to EDUCAUSE Benchmarking Services and technology trend reports. Dr. Donna Petherbridge is the official liaison with this organization.
  • In addition to OLC and ECAR, Dr. Donna Petherbridge is the liaison with ELI. As stated on its website, ELI is a community of higher education organizations committed to the advancement of learning through the innovative application of technology. According to Petherbridge, “a membership in this EDUCAUSE initiative provides the university access to free webinars on relevant topics, access to the ELI 7 Things You Should Know series, as well as discounted registrations for ELI events.
  • EDUCAUSE is also a nonprofit organization with which DELTA is associated. The mission of EDUCAUSE is to advance higher education through the use of information technology. This organization provides a comprehensive range of resources, networking opportunities and information services to all interested employees at member institutions. Dr. Marc Hoit with OIT is the official liaison with EDUCAUSE.
  • Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA)formerly InfoComm International, is the trade association representing the professional audiovisual and information communications industries worldwide. From offices around the world, AVIXA serves its members and the industry through education, resources and events. AVIXA includes technical and business courses both in the classroom and online, AV standards, thought pieces and market research. It also includes local roundtables and international trade shows. Our institutional membership allows the NC State Community to take advantage of membership pricing for online workshops, participate in free webinars, and receive conference discounts. OIT is our official liaison with this organization.
  • The Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC) provides sound leadership and a forum for information exchange. Its members are at the forefront of media and technology support for quality teaching and learning in higher education settings. DELTA financially contributes to this membership. Tony Pearson is our liaison with this organization.
  • NAB, The National Association of Broadcasters, is the “voice for the nation’s radio and television broadcasters.” As the premier trade association for broadcasters, NAB advances the interests of its members in federal government, industry and public affairs; improves the quality and profitability of broadcasting; encourages content and technology innovation; and spotlights the important and unique ways stations serve their communities. DELTA financially contributes to this membership. Tony Pearson is the official campus liaison with this organization.
  • The National College Testing Association (NCTA) is a non-profit organization of testing professionals working in post-secondary institutions, in companies with test-related products and services, and in other professional testing venues. NCTA is dedicated to the promotion of professionalism and quality in the administration of testing services and programs, including issues relating to test administration, test accessibility, test development, test scoring, and assessment.
