Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit
Need Help Identifying Accessibility Challenges in Your Moodle Course?
We don’t always know what abilities and challenges our students bring to the learning environment. By using the Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit, you can make your course a more welcoming and equitable place for all your students.
The Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit is a suite of tools designed to help instructors and Moodle course editors find and fix common accessibility issues in their Moodle-based content. The Accessibility+ Toolkit can:
- Provide information about the accessibility of activities and resources that have been authored within the Moodle text editors (NC State books, pages, activity descriptions, labels, topic headings, the question bank, etc.).
- Group errors by content type: images, layout, links, media, table, and text.
How do instructors and students use the Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit?
When you log into your Moodle course, you can find the Brickfield Accessibilty+ Toolkit as a drop-down option of the “Course Menu” under the “More” tab. If you are looking for more specific information about accessing this toolkit, please refer to the Knowledge Base article, “Overview of Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit.” Then, simply submit your course for analysis, and view reports on the issues found in your content that need to be adjusted.
Brickfield has a set of wizards you can use to fix some errors; others will require manual fixing. Detailed instructions for using the toolkit can be found in the Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit User Guide.
Faculty/Student Experiences
“Brickfield makes creating an accessible class Moodle site less daunting. The list of accessibility issues it creates is easy to sort through and address. Using Brickfield created a better student experience and gave me the reassurance that I was addressing Moodle accessibility in a comprehensive way.” Paige Luck, Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences
“Brickfield helped us quickly learn how accessible our course site and resources are. As you teach a course and share resources and updates, it is easy to lose track of what accessibility checks you have performed. The Brickfield report is comprehensive and helped us identify issues, fix them, and maintain the site we wanted!” Carlos Goller, Department of Biological Sciences
