    Timeline

    Spring 2023

  • FLF 302: Increasing Asynchronous Engagement with French Literature

FLF 302: Survey of French Literature from Romanticism to the Contemporary Period is a course focused on sharpening reading and discussion skills. Students are assigned representative works and asked to pay particular attention to literary analysis as well as to historical and cultural background. Associate Teaching Professor Laura Call successfully created a “teamified” approach to increase student engagement in her fully in-person course. In the spring semester of 2023, her class transitioned to a hybrid format and Call turned to DELTA by applying for an Instructional Tools Express Grant to collaborate on technological solutions using instructional tools that are available on Moodle. Her goal was to maintain the high levels of engagement that her students enjoyed in her in-person course format while infusing innovative technology tools to enhance their experiences.

    Instructional Challenges

    • Evolving innovative technologies available through Moodle can be difficult to learn and implement without guidance.
    • In-person engagement techniques and strategies are very different from their online counterparts.

    Highlights/Solutions

    • Used personality tests as a basis to form groups.
    • Provided a variety of assessment formats to make content accessible to different types of learners.
    • Developed consistent achievement goals.
    • Demonstrated student success visually using gamification techniques such as progress bars and badges.
