Need help identifying accessibility challenges in your Canvas course?

Pope Tech for Canvas is a suite of tools designed to help instructors and Canvas course editors create more accessible Canvas content and find and fix common accessibility issues in existing content.

• The Pope Tech Accessibility Guide identifies and suggests fixes for accessibility issues within Canvas’s text editor.
• Pope Tech’s Accessibility Dashboards provides a report on the accessibility of activities and resources that have been authored within the Canvas Rich Content Editors, flags external content to review, and provides direct links to fix issues with a course.

How do instructors use Pope Tech for Canvas?

In Canvas’s Rich Content Editor, open the Accessibility Guide by clicking the PopeTech icon right next to the “Cancel” and “Save” button at the bottom right of the page.

To access Pope Tech’s Accessibility Dashboards, click on “Pope Tech Accessibility” in the Course Navigation Menu, and arrive at a course-level dashboard with a scorecard, a 30-day trend report, and links to resources for getting started. A table of “content blocks” allows quick access to open and fix items that have errors, using the Pope Tech Accessibility Guide. Reports can be generated from the dashboard for any course.

Comfortable with technology? Get started now:

• Log into a Canvas course.
• In the left navigation menu, select “Pope Tech Accessibility”
• View your scorecard, then use the “Content Blocks” table at the bottom of the page to open any item listed.
• Use the Accessibility Guide that opens in the right-hand sidebar to view and address errors. Access help anywhere you see a question mark icon in the Guide. Save your item, and return to step 2.
