Lucidchart/Lucidspark

Create visual flowcharts and whiteboards with Lucid.

Creating visual components for a course is essential for maximizing student engagement and fostering active learning. Lucid is a visual collaboration platform that allows instructors to create flowcharts, diagrams, organizational charts, and process maps. Instructors can turn abstract course concepts into clear, compelling visuals that help students retain what they learn.

The Lucid Suite comprises two complementary tools:

Lucidchart is designed for detailed diagramming, focused on creating technical and structured visuals. It’s great for flowcharts and project management with designated due dates and steps. It includes features such as data linking tools and an extensive shape library.

Lucidspark is designed for brainstorming, ideation, and collaborative whiteboarding. It’s best suited for discussion-based and collaborative courses. It features tools such as sticky notes and voting sessions, allowing for dynamic planning and brainstorming among instructors and students.

How do instructors and students use Lucid?

LucidSuite is automatically integrated into Canvas, creating an easy-to-access and readily available digital tool. Instructors and students will receive a free license to LucidSuite through Canvas, allowing access to all LucidSuite features through the course navigation menu or the Rich Content Editor Toolbar.

Use Lucidchart for detailed diagrams. Within the project space, use different shapes and colors to create visually engaging charts and models.

Instructors may use Lucidchart for:

  • Demonstrating detailed processes (e.g. the Photosynthesis process)
  • Entity-relationship models
  • Circuit layouts
  • Sequential problem-solving
Use the Lucidspark whiteboard tool to create flowcharts and mind maps, utilizing different shapes and colors to put your ideas on paper. Include sticky notes with notes as you brainstorm.

Instructors may use Lucidspark for:

  • Opinion polls
  • Open-ended project planning
  • Workshops
  • Brainstorming
