DELTA Receives Gold Level Certification for Wellness

Wolfpack Wellness event

Once again in 2023, DELTA was recognized as a Gold Well Wolfpack Certified organization, reaching 92% and earning 150 out of a potential 163 points to earn this accomplishment!

According to Cortney Hagans, DELTA Human Resources Specialist, DELTA officially launched its wellness programs in April 2018 — along with the university-wide Wolfpack Wellness initiative — to improve the lives of employees and help drive the success of the organization. DELTA has achieved Gold Level Certification each year since the start of the initiative.

DELTA also partners with NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education (NCSCaLE) in their wellness efforts. In April 2023, NCSCaLE submitted an application for the first time and also received Gold Level Certification!

The Well Wolfpack Certification annually distinguishes departments that make a commitment to creating a culture of wellness in the workplace. To receive certification, the application process awards point totals in the areas of Active Workplace, Nutrition, Emotional Wellness and Culture of Wellness. The benefits of having regularly scheduled wellness activities for DELTA staff include greater productivity, reductions in work-related injuries and creating a healthier work environment.

“Reaching Gold Level Certification is a huge deal and is a goal we set for DELTA each year,” Hagans said. “We track every wellness-related event, email or resource shared with DELTA throughout the year and compile that data to submit in the wellness application. To receive enough points to reach Gold says a lot about DELTA’s commitment to the well-being of our staff and how important it is to recognize the ways that wellness is infused into the fabric of our organization and culture.”

Wellness initiatives within DELTA are coordinated primarily by DELTA HR and include events hosted by NC State University Human Resources and the DELTA/NCSCaLE HR teams. The teams meet regularly to brainstorm ideas and share wellness topics on health, diversity and culture, and of course mental health related sessions.

Hagans related that the goal for these initiatives was multifaceted.

“We share resources and encourage participation in social awareness experiences, but we also provide information regarding other activities throughout the month,” Hagans said.

Angela Hallman, DELTA and NCSCaLE Human Resources Consultant, also shares Hagans’ appreciation for this achievement.

“There’s always so much excitement around the ideas we share in our brainstorming sessions and that energy builds into our planning meetings. Understanding the work that goes into the coordination of wellness, we are thrilled to have met this goal again this year and to have achieved the Gold Level Well Wolfpack Certification,” Hallman said.

The DELTA Activities Committee (DAC) also plays a large role in wellness events. They help to keep the organization engaged and work to create belonging, which was critical during the pandemic.

DELTA employees can participate directly by becoming Wellness Champions. NC State Wellness Champions are university staff and faculty who advocate and help facilitate an innovative culture and environment of wellness in their college, unit or department. You do not have to be on the DAC or work in HR to participate as a wellness champion.
