Program Funding

Need help navigating the Online and Distance Education program funding process?

Whether you’re looking for funding to develop a new Online and Distance Education program or expand or enhance your existing program, DELTA can help you navigate the Online and Distance Education program funding process.

Online and Distance Education Program Funding

DELTA provides funding for departments and colleges to plan and develop new Online and Distance Education programs. Funds typically cover a feasibility study, course development for the program, website development, administrative overhead and marketing. In consultation with the Online and Distance Education Planning and Development unit, the program leaders complete the program approval documents and develop enrollment plans.

When an Online and Distance Education program is established, DELTA provides funding based on its enrollment projections as approved by the provost and UNC-GA. These resources support the delivery of courses, faculty compensation, student support services, assessment activities and program administration expenses.

Flexible Access Credit Courses

The Flexible Access program provides open enrollment distance education courses each semester in a variety of subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It can also serve as an incubator for new Online and Distance Education programs, providing faculty and departments an opportunity to familiarize themselves with online teaching and learning, gauging student interest in a particular subject area, and building student demand for a particular program. Funding for Flexible Access courses is calculated on a per-enrollment basis, with allocations for faculty compensation and benefits, department support funds, TA support for large enrollment sections and college administrative funds.
