August 2018 Mediasite Administrator Update

Mediasite upgrades, a pre-semester MUG meeting, a new testing environment and an important note about MSX 2018 discount are highlights for this Mediasite Admin update.

MUG Meeting August 8, 2018

Please RSVP for the rescheduled MUG meeting if you want lunch. We can’t assume everyone who was going to join us for the canceled August 1st meeting is able to attend on the 8th, so please do it again if you haven’t already. Details follow.

The next NC State Mediasite Users Group (MUG) meeting is 10:30 am Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in Parks Shops 130 on the main campus. Lunch will be provided! We need to know how many people will have lunch, so please RSVP via this link.

We encourage all college-level Mediasite Admins and associated IT personnel to attend. It’s a good opportunity to do a check-in prior to the start of our busy Fall 2018 semester.

Mediasite Server Upgrade Monday, August 6

The production My Mediasite instance will be offline Monday, August 6 for a server upgrade. The entire week is set aside for maintenance of all DELTA supported systems. Mediasite systems will definitely be impacted Monday 8/6 and Tuesday 8/7 and could be intermittently offline anytime over the week.

Details will be posted to SysNews. Upgrade elements:

  • Monday, August 6 the My Mediasite instance goes offline. Access to My Mediasite online will not be possible. Users can record locally, but will not be able to upload or view what has been recorded.
  • My Mediasite will be upgraded to server version 7.2 & will be renamed mediasite.wolfware.ncsu.edu. Links to existing My Mediasite content will redirect to the new instance.
  • There is an interface change for the My Mediasite user portal with this upgrade.
  • Sonic Foundry has 15 videos on the Mediasite YouTube channel that cover all My Mediasite functions using the new interface. The following link has them grouped together: My Mediasite videos (latest version)
  • In addition to My Mediasite, these instances will upgrade to 7.2.2 and will start publishing this Fall to the consolidated mediasite.wolfware single instance:
    • DELTA
    • COM
    • OIT
    • TEXTILES
    • CALS
    • CNR

MSX Conference in Madison, WI in October

What we used to know as “Unleash” has been renamed to “The Mediasite Experience” and has moved from May to this coming October 15–16, in Madison, WI. It’s in a different hotel, too. Details are here: http://www.mediasiteexperience.com/

If you plan on going, use this discount code when you register: TM250. This provides $250 off of the MSX rate. Please note that although MSX registration gives the option of registering a group of people, the discount code only works on single registrations. To get the discount, you must register members of your group one-by-one.

Note from Sonic Foundry

A modest change is being made to Sonic Foundry’s server and recorder software numbering system. Recorder software images and versions will be odd numbers, and server versions will be even numbers.

  • After the 7.1 recorder version series, the next recorder iteration will be 7.3.xx,
  • The next server version after the 7.2 series will be 7.4.xx.
