Mediasite Administrator Update, September 2016(Archive)

For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.

Top news this month is a 7.1 recorder software version update and campus-wide data center maintenance mid-month.

Recorder version 7.1.11

Recorder software version 7.1.11 has been released by Sonic Foundry. This is a simple update that can be pushed from the Management Portal.

It fixes a couple of problems we’ve encountered with 7.1.10, so we’re updating all DELTA production recorders. We encourage those of you who are on 7.1.10 to consider updating your recorders to 7.1.11 (after testing your workflow with it).

As a convenience, we’ve compiled the 7.1.11 new features, major fixes and known issues in a Google Document:

https://docs.google.com/a/ncsu.edu/document/d/1asK8wbvAyQQoNTCp7g0KDi2ofJAYxBXT7-DI3BhPWPs/edit?usp=sharing

This information has been gleaned from the 7.1.11 Release Notes on the Sonic Foundry support site:

https://support.sonicfoundry.com/Document/File/Mediasite-Recorder-7-1-11-Build-3395-Release-Notes

New Recorders will have 7.1.10 Image and 7.1.xx Software

If you receive a “refresh” recorder or purchase a new recorder this coming year, it will come with the 7.1.10 image and 7.1.xx software.

Test Environment

Our production server is on 7.0.27. The test environment is running 7.0.28. We encourage you to test your workflow on it during the Fall 2016 semester.

Test Instances

  • Every Mediasite Instance is on the test server.
  • The URL is instancename-testing.online.ncsu.edu/online/manage
  • You have access to your test Instance, 24/7, unless it’s being updated or is otherwise down for maintenance.
  • Publishing presentations to the test environment is just like production publishing, once you’ve connected a recorder.
  • If for some reason you can’t log in, or someone on your team can’t log in, contact us immediately and we’ll correct it.

September Server Maintenance

DELTA Infrastructure maintenance on Saturday, September 10 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. should not impact Mediasite, but other DELTA services (such as Moodle) will see brief outages during that time. Here is the post for more information and updates: https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/news/57d07083

Q3 Extended Data Center maintenance will occur from 6 a.m. Saturday, September 17 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 18. OIT performs this quarterly maintenance on NC State data centers and all NC State IT services will be affected at different times over that weekend. The inability to authenticate will be the most likely disruption for Mediasite users.

Details are in this Sysnews post: https://sysnews.ncsu.edu/news/57b79b07

The next scheduled monthly Windows Updates for the Mediasite servers is Saturday, September 24 from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. For further information and future updates, please see the Updates and Maintenance Schedule: https://wolfware.ncsu.edu/updates-maintenance/
