Mediasite Administrators Update, January 2014

As part of an ongoing effort to keep Mediasite Administrators on campus informed, we created this DELTAwire article specifically for you! We have several important announcements regarding My Mediasite tools, server maintenance, media management and more, that we wanted to share with you. For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact us at mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.

This article includes information on the following topics:

Opt-in for Desktop Recording and Media Management with My Mediasite

DELTA is piloting desktop recording in spring 2014, with a planned launch of the service in summer 2014. Registration for the pilot will begin in January; watch DELTAwire for an announcement. You can subscribe to DELTAwire at https://delta.ncsu.edu/deltawire/.

Mediasite Server Maintenance

Mediasite Maintenance is scheduled for December 20, 2013.  DELTA will be upgrading the servers to version 6.1.13. We will also install the December 2013 Windows Updates and update some network card drivers on a few of the servers.

Mediasite Server Storage Management

DELTA will be taking the following steps to ensure we have adequate space for the spring 2014 semester:

1.  Recycle Bin Management – Files in the recycle bin will, over time, consume large amounts of space on the Mediasite Servers. Beginning Jan. 21, the server administrator will delete any files in the recycle bin.

2.  Publish to Go (zip) Files – DELTA will be deleting the Publish to Go zip files from the servers Jan. 21. If a deleted zip file is needed, it can be recreated by taking the same action used to create the file the first time.

In addition, please remind faculty to use the download feature on the catalog page in Mediasite rather than direct linking to the Publish to Go files. Direct links would be broken when zip files are no longer needed and deleted.

3.  WMV files: WMV Templates Reminders

If you have a full recorder running Windows 7, we ask you to use the following templates on a daily basis and if you are not live streaming presentations:

    •  4:3 Template for desktop and mobile playback (for full recorders with Windows 7 embedded only)

    •  16:9 Template for desktop and mobile playback (for full recorders with Windows 7 embedded only)

Using these templates will alleviate creating unneeded wmv files on the server.

If you have presentations with both wmv and mpeg files, please remove the duplicate wmv file from the presentation. If you need assistance, please email mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.
