Office of Faculty Development Fall Workshop Opportunities(Archive)

From our colleagues in the Office of Faculty Development . . .

The Office of Faculty Development is excited to announce the kickoff for this semester’s workshop program. Please join us beginning this Friday afternoon! Additionally, consider joining a reading circle to look at Academically Adrift or My Freshman Year (more information at the bottom of this e-mail).

“Brain: An apparatus with which we think we think”: Metacognition, self regulation and your students
Marcia Toms, Tutorial Center
Friday, September 16th
2:00-3:00 pm Talley Green Room

Self-regulated learning and metacognition are two processes linked to academic success, but are difficult to “teach.” This session will look at literature on the topics, discuss ways to develop these skills in undergraduate students, and provide an opportunity for participants to get feedback on instructional challenges.

What students tell their advisers that they don’t tell you
Mindy Sopher, Lecturer in Communication, Adviser First Year College
Liz Moran, Associate Director for Advising and Admissions, College of
Textiles
Hailey Queen, Academic Adviser, College of Engineering

Friday, September 30th, 2011
2:00-3:00 pm, Park Shops Room 130

Come talk to advisers about what students are saying about instructors at NC State. What do adviser’s know that can help improve what you’re doing in the classroom? Join us for a lively discussion.
