DELTA Grants History

When DELTA began in 2000, it began offering Distance Education (DE) Grants and Exploratory Grants. During these years, only funds were awarded.

After receiving feedback from grants recipients for the need for skilled assistance, staff time was included as a component of the grant program beginning in the 2002-03 cycle. The grants program was named Innovation in Distributed Education Applications or IDEA Grants.

In order to increase the flexibility of DELTA staff, and to better respond to project needs, DELTA discontinued awarding a specific number of staff hours toward each grant as it did in the beginning. Now, DELTA staff meets with faculty the first several weeks of the grant project and determines the needs for the project. Staff time is used as needed to meet those needs, in addition to funds granted. DELTA staff time does not need to be paid for out of the monetary award.

DELTA began awarded Large Course Redesign grants beginning in 2008. These grants were handled outside of the IDEA Grants program.

In 2013, the IDEA Grants and Course Redesign Grants were repackaged as DELTA Grants.

The table below shows the number of grants and amount of support awarded each year. The specific year displays are linked to a detailed list of recipients for that cycle. The figures in the table below do not include the second and third year of funding for multi-year grants.
