Configuring Your Computer for Elluminate Live!

NC State is upgrading to the newest version of Elluminate, which has been renamed Blackboard Collaborate. Please visit http://go.ncsu.edu/configuration if you need configuration information for a Blackboard Collaborate session.

You should complete these instructions the first time that you use Elluminate Live! on your computer. If you switch to a new computer, be sure to run the configuration again on that computer.

NOTE: Blackboard Collaborate purchased Elluminate Live! in 2011. Some support resources may be branded "Blackboard Collaborate."

Step 1: System Requirements

Your Operating System

  Your Java Webstart Version

As you prepare for your Elluminate Live! session, please ensure the following:

  • You are using the computer on which you will attend your session.
  • You are using the Internet connection on which you will attend your session, and it is a stable, reliable connection.
  • You have speakers to hear audio from the session. If your moderator will require you to speak, you will need a microphone and speakers, preferably a headset.
  • You have the appropriate permissions to save files to your computer. If you are unsure, contact your system administrator.

Step 2: Configuring Elluminate Live! on Your Computer

Configuration Room

  1. Enter the Configuration room. If you receive any pop-ups, always select the positive answer – "Yes," "Run," etc.
    • If you are unable to enter the configuration room, you may be operating behind a firewall.
    • If you are running a personal firewall, it may be easiest to disconnect your firewall when you need to use Elluminate Live!.
    • If you are connecting from behind a corporate firewall, talk to your system administrator about allowing traffic on the following IP address and ports:
      IP address: 152.46.3.178
      Ports: 80 and 2187
  2. Set your connection speed when prompted. If you are using a wireless Internet connection, select Wireless. If you are not prompted to set your connection speed:
    • On a Windows computer, go to the Tools menu, select Preferences, and then select Connection.
    • On a Mac computer, go to the Elluminate Live! menu, select Preferences, and then select Connection.
  3. Set up your audio:
    1. Go to the Tools menu, select Audio, and then select Audio Setup Wizard.
    2. Follow the directions in the wizard.
