reVAMP

(Vista Assisted Migration Program)

Program Overview

DELTA provides direct assistance to instructors who are transitioning from Blackboard Vista to Moodle. This service is called reVAMP – the Vista Assisted Migration Program. The program is ideally suited to those faculty members who do not want to move their Vista courses to Moodle themselves, and are looking for intensive support with the migration process.  This program supports Registration and Records (R&R) courses only.

Benefits and Drawbacks

The key benefit of signing up for reVAMP support is that instructors do not have to perform the technical tasks required to move their content and activities from one system to the other. A DELTA team oversees the migration work, and each request is assigned a Coordinator who will work closely with the instructor to ensure a satisfactory result. Instructors can focus on learning how to teach effectively with Moodle, and not on learning how to migrate their materials.

However, the Vista to Moodle migration effort is time-intensive and there are many requests “in the queue” that our staff are processing concurrently. Because of this, the turnaround time may be several weeks or up to a month, and instructors must plan accordingly. For simple Vista sites (files and links), we recommend that instructors recreate their course in Moodle on their own, using the detailed migration guides provided by DELTA. We also teach a Migration workshop and consult with instructors on how to effectively transition their courses to Moodle.

Tips for a Successful reVAMP Experience

Follow these helpful tips to make your transition from Vista to Moodle a success:

  • Apply Early. We recommend submitting your requests for reVAMP support as early as possible.
  • Learn Moodle. Instructors should learn how to use Moodle and be very familiar with this learning management system before receiving their migrated courses. DELTA workshops are available throughout the year on a variety of Moodle topics.
  • Know the Feature Fit and Gaps. Most of the tools in Vista have a direct parallel in Moodle. However, tools may have a different name and the setting options will differ. We recommend that instructors become familiar with the Feature Comparison and be prepared to revise parts of their course where there is a feature gap (i.e., Selective Release.)

Program Timeline

Please note important reVAMP dates for 2011:

  • January 1-April 15: Open enrollment period. DELTA is accepting migration requests from all colleges and units.
  • April 15: Final day to submit a migration request.
  • June 1: Vista server will be taken offline. All content must be removed (or archived) by this date.
