ITAP (Instructional Technology Assistant Program)
Fall 2008 ITAP Session
Applications for the Fall Sesssion of ITAP will be accepted starting in July.
What is ITAP?
The Instructional Technology Assistant Program is an opportunity for North Carolina State University students and staff members to learn how to create course websites or other online materials for instructional faculty. Program graduates will be able to provide technical assistance to NCSU faculty and staff who are developing online or blended learning environments, or who are supplementing face-to-face instruction with online materials. There is no charge to ITAP students or their departments for participation in the program, but class size is limited. ITAP participants must work in conjunction with a sponsor (most often a faculty member in their department).
The ITAP experience consists of group training sessions, online activities, and the creation of an instructional technology project. Throughout the program, ITAP participants have access to individual support via phone, email, and one-on-one consultations with instructional technology professionals.
ITAP participants will complete a series of foundational workshops designed to provide them with knowledge related to supporting instructional technologies at NC State. Some of these workshops are face-to-face sessions, and some are delivered online through campus tools such as Vista and Elluminate. Each participant will complete additional training based on the requirements of his or her chosen instructional technology project. Participants can expect to complete approximately nine training workshops, based on the needs of their individual projects.
The project must be agreed upon by the participant, the sponsor, and the ITAP program coordinator, at the beginning of the ITAP session. The project must relate to the creation of an online instructional resource (e.g., a course website or an online module for a course), and it must satisfy the program's learning objectives. Participants will have approximately 1 semester to complete all of their ITAP activities.
ITAP participants will receive a copy of Adobe Studio 8 (which includes Dreamweaver 8, Flash Professional 8, Fireworks 8, Contribute 3, and FlashPaper 2). This software can be used throughout ITAP to help with Web development activities, and upon successful completion of ITAP, the participant may keep the software. If a participant does not complete ITAP, he or she must return the software.
ITAP Objectives
Upon completing the program, ITAP participants will be able to:
- describe concepts related to effective online instruction and blended learning;
- identify resources available at NC State University for creating Web-supplemented or Web-based course environments;
- create and modify Web pages and graphics, while adhering to the basic elements of good Web design;
- use LMS tools effectively (Vista, Elluminate, etc.), and create content for LMS delivery.
