Question: What is the difference between IDEA Grants, LITRE Grants, and FCTL Grants? Answer: IDEA Grants (http://delta.ncsu.edu/ideagrants/) focus on the creation of a project that is innovative in instructional technology for an on-line distance education course. It's impact is seen on the number of student credit hours seen in distance education courses. It is funded through state-appropriated distance education funds which are generated by distance education enrollments. LITRE Grants (http://litre.ncsu.edu/dfiles/grants.html) focus on the creation of a project using technology that will affect student learning outcomes on the NCSU campus. It is measured by various assessments which look at the impact on student learning. It is funded through the Provost from the Chancellor's office. FCTL Grants (http://www.ncsu.edu/faculty-development/research-grants/fac-resources.html) focus on innovative projects aimed at enhancing teaching and promoting student learning. Three types of funds are available: 1) grants to faculty for innovations in their courses, 2) to departments for innovations in curricula or groups of courses, and 3) to support faculty travel to conferences or workshops focused on teaching and learning.
