How to I upload multiple files *at once* to to my Vista site?

Return to FAQs

Solution Summary:

Use Web Folders or WebDAV

Full Solution:

Problem: Can I upload multiple files to my Vista site (versus adding them one by one)? Solution: The answer is yes! One option is to use the "Web Folder" feature in Vista. A Web Folder is a folder like you would view on your computer that you can drag and drop files to and from. It uses a connection method called "WebDAV". WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning." It is similar to FTP in that it is a mechanism for transferring files from one computer to another. To connect via WebDAV, you first need to find your Vista section's WebDAV address. To do so: 1. Go the "Build" tab on you site 2. Go to the File Manager 3. Click the chevron symbol next to the "File Manager" title 4. Choose "View WebDAV Info," and copy the URL listed there. To set up your connection, follow the steps below. In Windows: 1. Go to "My Network Places" 2. Create a new Network Place 3. Give the connection a name. The name is arbitrary, it's purely a label for your records. 4. Paste in the WebDAV URL you copied earlier. 5. Click "Done" to create your connection. On a Mac: 1. Go to the "Go" menu on your Desktop 2. Select "Connect to:" 3. Paste in the WebDAV URL you copied earlier. 4. Your Vista site will appear as a new drive under the Macintosh HD folder. You could also use a third party program like Dreamweaver or Webdrive and utilize Vista's WebDAV feature. Depending on the operating system you use and the program you are using the method of using WebDAV to upload your files will vary. **Note: If you are using Dreamweaver CS3, you will need to apply this fix from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402079 Please consult learntech@ncsu.edu or call 513-7094 for more information.
