Mediasite Administrators Update, September 2014

As part of an ongoing effort to keep Mediasite administrators on campus informed, we created this DELTAwire article specifically for you!  For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact us at mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.

This article includes information on the following topics:

Mediasite 7

The upgrade to Mediasite 7 was completed on Friday, August 8 on all instances except My Mediasite. During the upgrade of the My Mediasite instance, an issue was discovered that does not allow access to some pages that start with http://mymediasite. Sonic Foundry is working on the issue and should have a solution by September.  Therefore, the My Mediasite instance will remain on the version 6 servers until we receive the code, have tested and upgrade during one of the published maintenance windows.  Users will also need to remain on the version 6 software of the desktop recorder.

With this major upgrade we experienced some issues which have been reported to Sonic Foundry.  Some of the issues have been escalated to engineering and some will be resolved in future releases. We are sharing the following google doc with users which list the known issues and the status of resolution. Also included in this document are tabs for feature request or production suggestions which have been submitted and tips that might not have been covered in the training session in v7.

Mediasite Monthly Server Maintenance

The monthly Windows Updates for the Mediasite servers will be installed on Saturday, August 30th between 5am and 6am. We will also be adding more resources to several of the servers. This will result in about 15 minutes of downtime at some point during the maintenance window. If you have any Mediasite issues, please contact mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.
There are two additional maintenance windows during the month of September on September 13 and 27.  More details regarding these these maintenance windows will be sent to the Mediasite list-serv during the month of September.

For all regular scheduled server maintenance windows, please see the Updates & Maintenance schedule.

NC State Mediasite User Group Meeting

Please plan to attend our NC State Mediasite User Group (MUG) meeting on September 25, 2014.  We are currently narrowing down a specific time and location and will notify the mediasite list-serv when those details are finalized.  The agenda is still under development, but look forward to discussions on best practices in version 7, what might be different in version 7, and a great session on features in Mediasite and My Mediasite for instructional designers, instructional technologists and administrators who work with instructors.
