Media Distribution Services (MDS)
Media Distribution Services acquires, creates, ships, receives, maintains, and distributes CD-ROM, DVD, and cable television broadcast media for distance education students.
The MDS staff work with other DELTA groups to maintain efficient production and quality control processes that ensure distance education students receive high-quality education media in a timely manner.
Media Distribution Services (MDS) supports the educational goals of NC State students and faculty by creating and distributing digital media. Our mission is to provide first class service by delivering high quality materials in the most effective ways possible. We envision a learning environment in which our products and services seamlessly integrate into all methods of content delivery, supporting and enhancing the efforts of our colleagues in using technology to the greatest advantage of our students and faculty.
The future of MDS
Media Distribution Services keeps an eye to the future and proactively works with Delta colleagues to find new and exciting ways to deliver digital content. Ideas under consideration include Video on Demand (VOD) services; integration of digital media into the NCSU next generation Learning Management System (LMS); and further television distribution via digital cable systems. We are also exploring more effective use of digital media assets in learning and research, as we look at ways to make media content searchable and more accessible to our students and faculty.
We continually evaluate and consider new formats for Internet distribution (Flash, MP4, integrated “rich media” presentation systems, etc.) so we can make informed decisions regarding delivery methods as technology progresses. We look to the future with the intent of providing the best possible support for our students and faculty in the most efficient and cost effective ways possible.
